Photo essay: For the Love of the Game

If you’re not into sports, you might wonder why we do it. The anticipation. The hope. The bleeding sense of impending despair followed by unexpected but highly euphoric elation. All for what? A silly game, some might say.

The emotional rollercoaster is certainly tough to handle. So much so, you might wonder if sport’s fans are better equipped to deal with the emotional stressors we face in life.

But the truth is, we do it for one reason only: the love of the game.

David Davies has been shooting for PA Media for 21 years covering a wide range of sports across the country and beyond.

In that time, he’s captured all sorts of fans making their tense journey to the next big game, which of course, when you’re supporting your home team is every game.

For the Love of Game describes a photo essay that looks at the sacrifices fans make to support their team, the long evenings they endure, and the emotional rollercoaster they ride on every weekend.
